August Presidency Message

I have read Mervyn B. Arnold’s talk, What Have You Done With My Name (November 2010 Ensign or log on to www.lds.org), many times over the last several months. Each time I read or listen to these words I feel the spirit whisper the importance of what things really matter in this life. Someday each one of us will have to account to our Savior, Jesus Christ, for what we have done with His name. I often contemplate; what if I were to face him today? Would my head hang low, ashamed of my choices OR could I face him knowing I had done everything in my power to live as he did? The example we leave behind is crucial.

I hope you will read the article and the wonderful stories he shares. His stories help me keep proper perspective and realize that our daily actions and example are more important than any monetary item, thought or action. When we pass, what do we want to be remembered for? Our love, time, testimony (that we bear and record), efforts in working hard and being honest are some of the most cherished items mentioned.

In today’s world it is easy to get distracted. I hope each of us will lay hold of every good gift the Lord has given and touch no unclean thing. I’m thankful to be reminded of the daily adjustments we should make to be more Christ-like. Utilizing the atonement is essential. A question we can ask ourselves as we go about our daily schedules; Would you think it, say it or do it if the Savior were there? Please think about what you do with your day, your spare time, how you treat others and evaluate the desires of your heart. You are an amazing woman! You can and are doing amazing things with this life. I have no doubt our Savior is with us, when we choose for him to be at our side. He will lead us back to our Heavenly Father. I know we will be happier than ever imagined when we live the gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope that each of us can declare, when we report to the Lord, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 11 “I have honored Thy name.”
