Presidency Message
Do You Love Me? Feed My Sheep.
Having served in the capacity of Compassionate Service “go-to” for
a number of years, I’m always touched by the knowledge that you sisters take
your opportunities to serve to heart. Many times, the asked-for meal has
already been provided, or the recipient has let us know that someone has
already contacted them about a meal. My mind and heart have been opened to the
new and varied ways you have served without being asked. So, the other day, I
was searching on the Internet for some great Compassionate Service stories that
would bring an uplifted idea or two to use when serving our sisters.
By-the-way, there’s lots of them out there. However, I ran across an idea about
writing letters and cards. There were comments on writing letters to our
Visiting Teaching sisters; writing to congratulate sisters about graduations,
weddings, and other accomplishments; writing to a home-bound sister; writing a
letter of encouragement, or whatever you can think of. And there were others. But one thing I was
touched by was that in writing a letter to someone who has made a positive
influence on you in your life, and thanking them for it, both recipient and
sender are lifted up! That's it...super easy! We often think of writing letters
as a last ditch effort in our Visiting Teaching responsibilities, but just
think of the boost that might be felt as a sister actually receives a real,
honest-to-goodness letter in her hand, from someone who had thought about her
and was inspired to share in a simple way! When we love somebody, we show it by
doing something nice. So ours is to learn to serve by finding a need and
fulfilling a need. Surprise someone with a good deed they hadn’t planned on.
Elder Russell M. Nelson, in Woman of
Infinite Worth, said, “In partnership with God, (your) divine mission is to
help spirits live and souls be lifted up.” What a loving thing to do…regardless
of the way we might choose to do it. Set a goal…one a month! What a great way
to serve!
Thank you sisters, for your love and compassion.
Sis. Gloria P.
