Just as we are each subject to trials, suffering, and pain, each of also need to come to an understanding of these experiences. We may choose to dwell on the difficulty of the situation or we may turn to the Lord’s endless love. Indeed, "Opposition is part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. We all encounter enough to bring us to an awareness of our Father’s love and of our need for the Savior’s help," (Elder Kent F. Richards, May 2011 Ensign). This month’s Relief Society presidency message is "The Atonement Covers All Pain", from the April 2011 General Conference. In this message, Elder Richards speaks of the love our Savior has for us, in choosing to experience pains and afflictions so that He would know how to succor His people. He then suggests, "Perhaps we also need to experience the depths of mortality in order to understand Him and our eternal purposes." The pains and trials of our lives are great and sometimes overwhelming, but it is a comfort to know that the love of our Heavenly Father and our Savior is even greater. How blessed we are to know this and to be recipients of the power of the atonement throughout our trials. -Janee
